Watering, feeding, harvesting and clearing

Depending on what you are growing, the fruit and vegetable garden may be starting to wind down.

It is however, important to still keep an eye on your plants, making sure they are kept well watered in times of drought which is possible even though Autumn is here.

Even if your soil is the best in the world, extra feeding will give your late harvesting crops a welcome boost. Feeding is especially important for container grown fruit and veggies. The type of fertiliser used is also important but with so many on the market, if in doubt, use an all purpose feed.

To find out more about the types of fertilisers available and their specific uses visit Fertilisers: Information about fertilisers and their uses

It's a good idea to clear spent crops and now is a good time to start a compost heap, especially if you have lots of "left over" vegetation from crops which have finished being harvested.
